Join a community exploring the intersection of somatic practice and body liberation, dedicated to freeing ourselves from historical, media-driven, and institutional messages about what bodies "should" look like, do, and perform to be "acceptable" in service of creating more space for our aliveness to thrive.
Instead of constantly seeking to improve or fix your physical self, you could experience your body as a source of wisdom and belonging?
You found a community that deeply honored the path your body has traversed and supported you in relating to it in new, compassionate ways?
Exploring the Body Through the Body
Many of us engage the world like "floating heads," disconnected from the wisdom of our embodied experience. When we disconnect from the body, we disconnect from the present moment and miss vital information about ourselves, our needs, and our boundaries.
This community invites you into a sanctuary space to engage in conversation with your body. It's like entering uncharted wilderness - leaving the familiar territory of cultural body "management" to discover your authentic embodied self. We do this through:
Somatic Practice
Techniques designed to increase awareness of our bodies in space and time, including mindful movement, breathwork, and body-centered meditation.
Understanding Context
Reflecting on the story of our lives, and thus the story of our bodies, as shaped by many factors including our families, communities, institutions, social norms, historical forces, and the land where we've lived.
Community
We offer support and compassion, walking this unfamiliar and sometimes uncomfortable path right alongside you.
Body Liberation Sanctuary was created by Abby Thies and Shenandoah Weiss. We are somatic leadership coaches passionate about creating inclusive spaces to explore our sometimes dicey relationship with the lived experience of being in a physical body. Through an open mind, heart, and spirit (and a touch of humor) we help clients flow more of their aliveness toward what matters most in their lives.
